Integrated Care Northamptonshire celebrates Black History Month

Integrated Care Northamptonshire (ICN) is celebrating Black History Month with a series of events taking place across the county throughout October.
Black History Month is marked every October in the UK and this year’s theme is ‘Time for Change: Action Not Words’, which emphasises the need for action around a shared common goal to achieve a better world and an improved future for everyone.
ICN partner organisations are marking the occasion with the following events, which anyone is welcome to join and encouraged to support:
- Throughout October, Northamptonshire Carers has a schedule of daily social media activity for Black History Month. You can find out more at northamptonshire-carers.org/black-history-month
- Also throughout the month, there will be Black History Month displays at selected libraries around the county
- On Monday 3 October (12.30-1.30pm) Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) is hosting an online event ‘Celebrating Our Local Community Heroes’. Join Celebrating Our Local Community Heroes on Microsoft Teams.
- On Wednesday 12 October (6-8pm) Northamptonshire Carers is hosting an online Black Author Book Sharing Club. To join this event please email admin@northamptonshire-carers.org
- On Thursday 13 October (10.30am-1.30pm) Northamptonshire Carers is screening ‘Exposed’, a short film sharing the experience of Global Ethnic Majority healthcare professionals throughout the pandemic, at the Anne Goodman Centre for Carers in Midland Road, Wellingborough. - On Friday 14 October (9.30am to 3.15pm) St Andrew’s Healthcare will be holding an online Black History Month conference, ‘United We Stand’, hosted by Richard Grant, aka Dreadlock Alien. Join all or any part of the United We Stand conference on Microsoft Teams.
- On Monday 17 October (1-2pm) NHFT is hosting an online event ‘Time for Change – Being Proactive about Black People’s Health’. Join ‘Time for Change’ on Microsoft Teams.
- On Tuesday 18 October (6-9pm) Northamptonshire Carers is hosting another screening ‘Exposed’, a short film sharing the experience of Global Ethnic Majority healthcare professionals throughout the pandemic, at the Sikh Community Centre and Youth Club in St James’ Mil Road, Northampton. - On Wednesday 19 October (1-3pm) the Global Ethnic Majority (GEM) group at the University of Northampton (UON) is hosting the annual Black in the Ivory Conference featuring the first ever Colloquium of Women Professors of Colour. The event is taking place in person at the UON’s Town Hall Creative Hub, and will also be live-streamed online. Register for the Black in Ivory Conference event on Eventbrite.
- On Tuesday 25 October (12-1pm) NHFT and Leicestershire Partnership Trust (LPT) are hosting the online event ‘Change in Action: Positive Work Experiences in LPT and NHFT’. Join Change in Action on Microsoft Teams.
- On Wednesday 26 October (10.30am-12.30pm) the GEM group at the University of Northampton and Healthwatch North and West Northamptonshire are hosting a Black History Month community engagement event to gather the views of local ethnic minority communities on their experiences accessing health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an in-person only event at Northampton Bangladeshi Centre in Mill Road, Northampton. Register for this community engagement event on Eventbrite.
- On Friday 28 October (10am-3pm) the GEM group at the University of Northampton (UON) is hosting the Health and Wellbeing Extravaganza at the UON’s Learning Hub, Waterside Campus. This is an in-person event to raise awareness of opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing, and all are welcome to drop in through the day.
