The Department for Education (DfE), in partnership with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE), is highlighting the great opportunities that apprenticeships offer through the Career Starter Apprenticeships (CSA) campaign.
Many apprenticeships are a great opportunity for those looking for their first role after leaving full-time education, and just one of the Career Starter Apprenticeships roles available is the Healthcare Support Worker. These work as part of a team providing high-quality and compassionate care to people when they need it most. You’ll be working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment where communication is vital. What matters most in this role is that you have a passion for helping others and enjoy working as part of a team. You will receive world-class training and development. The NHS is vast and diverse, and so are Healthcare Support Worker roles.
You could be:
supporting patients through their treatment and making a difference to their journey back to health
supporting patients with nutritional issues as a dietetic assistant
helping people to learn to walk again as a prosthetic technician
helping patients undergoing diagnosis and treatment as a radiography assistant.
Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeships are found across the NHS and beyond. If you’re considering a career in the health sector, it is often better to secure a job as a Healthcare Support Worker first – then after a few months in your role, your employer will start you on an apprenticeship programme that is right for you. This means you can decide if this is the right career for you before you sign up to an apprenticeship programme.
Over the course of an 18-month programme as a healthcare support worker apprentice, you will have the opportunity to earn while you learn with a salary expectation of between £16k and 19k!
