Usage of the Northamptonshire Care Record (NCR) continues to pick up pace
Usage of the Northamptonshire Care Record (NCR) continues to pick up pace across the county with more and more professionals making use of the new system on a daily basis with one organisation in particular hitting an important milestone this month.
The NCR enables providers of health and social care in Northamptonshire to instantly access patient information held by other providers for the purpose of direct care. Joining up care records allows health and care professionals to deliver the best possible treatment and support by having instant access to the right information at the right time.
Launched just under a year ago latest figures show the number of records accessed through the system now consistently stand at 20,000 a month, while the total number of records accessed at Kettering General Hospital since the roll-out of the system surpassed 100,000 in August.
Kirstie Watson, Digital Director of NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board said: “It is really encouraging to see how less than a year into its launch the number of professionals utilising this crucially important tool continues to grow. For Kettering General Hospital to have already reached the 100,000 milestone is really impressive and testament to the hard work taken place there to embed the NCR into every day practice to drive patient care forward.
“However we need to continue the work to spread the word about the importance of this new tool and continue to reach new professionals to continue this momentum and empower more professionals to get immediate access to accurate and current information about patient care.”
The NCR was launched in October 2023 and combines over 829,000 individual patients registered with GP practices in Northamptonshire with patient data from Northampton and Kettering General Hospitals and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
All records are strictly confidential and can only be accessed by clinical and care staff who are directly involved in an individual’s care.
